8 lessons from my 30's
Today is my birthday, Here are the lessons I wish I'd known sooner
Today is an important day for two reasons: it's the Sunday newsletter and it's also, on the occasion, my birthday :)
So, as I celebrate my 8th birthday 😅 (in my thirties), and before blowing out the 8 candles on my pancake cake, I wanted to share with you, the 8 lessons of the last 8 years!
🌟 8 lessons from my thirties
The last 8 years have been very very rich, with ups and downs, but I consider them the most intense and varied experiences (more so than in my 20s).
Here are the 8 lessons I want to share:
🔹 1. Health is above all else
I was lucky enough to have no health worries in my twenties, but it's obvious that the pace isn't the same the following decade...Sacrificing nights, pushing our limits, exhausting ourselves... It all comes at a high price, until the body says stop!
I've also experienced darker times, bereavements, scares... that remind us of our morality and what's essential.
I've learned the hard way that no success is worthwhile if you no longer have the energy to enjoy it. Fortunately, I've always taken care of my health and lived a healthy lifestyle, which have helped me get through certain challenges, but nothing can be taken for granted.
If I insist that energy is more important than time, it's because time needs to be occupied qualitatively and intentionally.
Take care of yourself, at least on what you control!
🔹 2. If you wait until you're ready, you'll wait all your life
You'll regret what you didn't dare more than the moments when you followed what attracted you!
It's never the right time, except when you decide to do it!
Don't wait until you have all the answers, move forward, set yourself in motion, and learn along the way.
🔹 3. Time is more precious than money
I spent a lot of time investing and taking risks in my twenties.
Money, you can lose some and regain some.
Time, once spent, never comes back.
We see a lot of our “old” relatives leaving in their thirties, and I'm glad I took advantage of them! And I certainly don't want to waste time by not taking advantage of those who are around.
Learn to buy time: delegate, automate, eliminate what doesn't serve your vision and focus on your zone of genius.
Freedom is having time! So use money to buy time and memories!
🔹 4. What you consume shapes you
The people you hang out with, the content you watch, the conversations you nurture... It all programs your brain.
I was talking about the importance of energy, which is fed by who you associate with, what you watch and listen to.
Feeling low in energy? Be aware of what feeds this state!
Choose your environment and information with intention.
🔹 5. Progress always beats perfection
I used to be a perfectionist, wasted a lot of time on it!
Then I realized that it's never going to be perfect anyway :)
Those who move forward: make, deliver, learn, adjust.
Better an imperfect project that evolves than a perfect idea that sleeps.
🔹 6. Don't chase money, attract it
Money follows value. The more value you bring, the more you'll receive.
I've realized that when we chase opportunities or customers, they run away from us!
The best posture is to be confident and become an opportunity.
I'm no longer looking to sell or make money, but to best serve the people I want to help, while nurturing my heart mission, abundance is then a consequence.
🔹 7. Fail fast and learn to love solving problems!
In my twenties, I took failures personally and waited until I had the ideal model, telling myself “when I've achieved such and such a result, I'll have no more problems!”
In fact, there will always be problems! Just new ones, and at different levels.
Luxury is having problems you can solve...
Since I've understood this, I've been focusing on the “infinite game” I talk about in my book Flowtasking.
Basically, the aim is not just to win, but to play! As soon as you play, you accept that you're going to win AND lose, but you keep on playing!
Every setback is a lesson. Every difficult period is an opportunity to improve and change your game.
Honestly, in my experience, difficult periods down the road, when things sometimes seem lost, often precede an even greater renewal!
Remain eternal apprentices and accept the process!
🔹 8. A child's soul is a superpower
Sometimes I used to feel guilty about having that very childlike soul and loving to have fun, then I realized one thing:
Play, curiosity, wonder: that's what keeps us alive.
Adults” die out when they forget to have fun.
I've decided never to lose that spark.
There's no way my “soul” is going to wear out!
I intend to keep on playing and surfing life!
💡Take the lessons that resonate!
